  • A screenshot claiming the payment was made through Ripple by American Express has inconsistencies and leaves the users in question.
  • The screenshot displays a reference number of 2018, contrary to a 2025 claim, which raises suspicions among the users.
  • No official statement by Ripple or American Express confirms XRP’s use and the assertion is unverified.

A recent image circulating online claims to be an American Express payment confirmation using Ripple’s blockchain technology, showing the payment was made using money sent through a faster payment system. Suspicion about the authenticity of the information has, however, been raised, with some users pointing out inconsistencies in the information.

Breakdown of the Payment Confirmation

The screenshot is a transaction by American Express in the UK, with reference number 2018-313-028-005334. Choices were provided to users to download, print, or email transaction details. Ripple’s payment network was used by the system, as indicated at the bottom of the screenshot. The fact that Ripple is present means that blockchain technology may have been employed in making the transaction, but confirmation is awaited.

Banks such as American Express have used RippleNet for international transactions.  However, since fiat currencies can also be used to make the payment, RippleNet does not always use XRP.  The usage of XRP in this specific transaction is not necessarily confirmed by the image.

Doubts Surrounding the Image’s Authenticity

Several members of the community questioned the authenticity of the image. Some users raised doubts over the structure of the reference number, saying a 2018 reference number does not match a 2025 transaction. Some pointed out the absence of an official statement by Ripple or American Express making an announcement regarding an extended partnership with XRP.

Users on X (formerly Twitter) reacted to the news shared by CryptoGeek, with some calling it misleading. One response pointed out that American Express has utilized RippleNet for cross-border transactions since 2017, but this does not confirm direct integration with XRP. Another user noted that XRP’s official website does not mention any partnership related to the claim.

To date, there has been no confirmation from official sources like Ripple, American Express, or main financial news providers to confirm the claims. Pending an official announcement, the status of the picture and its relevance to XRP cannot be verified.
