  • River CEO warns that listing altcoins locks exchanges into endless speculative trading cycles.
  • The memecoin market has dropped 49% since January, with trading volumes plunging nearly 49% amid declining interest.
  • River Financial’s Bitcoin-only model targets sustainable wealth growth, avoiding speculative altcoin risks.

River Financial CEO Alex Leishman cautioned that listing altcoins locks exchanges into a relentless cycle of speculative trading. On March 29, 2025, Leishman emphasized that adopting multi-asset platforms inevitably places exchanges on a “forever hamster wheel” of memecoin launches, especially when incorporating tokens like Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL).

Bitcoin-Only Strategy Prioritizes Sustainable Wealth Growth

According to Leishman, River Financial remains committed to exclusively offering Bitcoin services to promote wealth through sound money principles. Rejecting speculative business models, the firm aims to function more like a bank focused on genuine wealth accumulation rather than chasing short-term gains. Leishman reiterated that building a “successful crypto casino” contradicts River’s mission of promoting sustainable wealth.

The CEO highlighted that listing non-Bitcoin tokens pressures exchanges to accommodate various additional assets tied to ecosystems such as Ethereum and Solana. Leishman believes this approach traps exchanges in relentless speculative trading, undermining their ability to offer reliable, long-term wealth-building solutions.

Memecoin Market Faces Ongoing Decline

The broader memecoin market has experienced deep losses over the past year. CoinMarketCap statistics reveal an almost 49% decline in memecoin market capitalization since January 1, 2025, to $48.49 billion in late March. The volumes are also 48.90% lower in the same period, indicating decreased investor interest.

Despite the income from platforms that sell a variety of cryptocurrencies, Leishman has been defending River Financial’s single-focus Bitcoin approach. The wealth generation and protection-driven model of the firm pits it among other platforms that concentrate solely on Bitcoin, such as Swan Bitcoin, Bull Bitcoin, and decentralized exchange Bisq.

The war between multi-asset exchanges and Bitcoin-only systems burns in the background of dynamically changing market surroundings. Since the cryptocurrency market is still unstable, Leishman’s approach aims to avoid speculation risk associated with altcoin trade, reconfirming River Financial’s position on growing wealth over time.
